Question on sealing yoke to differential pinion...

I'm replacing the pinion seal on the rear differential of a 1957 FC-150 jeep. These are all CJ5 underneath. I've done many a pinion seal on all variety of vehicle. None of the manuals call for putting any kind of sealant to stop the gear oil from coming done the splines and out around the nut that holds the yoke on. I always put a generous amount of Permatex differential sealant on the end of the yoke/splines before putting the nut on. Why don't the manuals call for sealant here?
