Back in the 1970s Tim ran an ad in Shotgun News: 12 Ingram M10 .45 submachine guns plus suppressors for $2,500 (I believe that was the price). I contacted him about buying one, but because I lived in California at that time that sale was not possible. He did walk me through the process of becoming a Class 3 dealer (which I eventually became). I loved the part when he said that an ATF agent would come to my office to try to persuade me to not become a machine gun dealer - fortunately that never happened. Bixler complained a lot that he had lined up a client in some South American country but the Ford administration didn't issue him an export license so that is why he was selling these in quantity and at a discount price. I ended up purchasing a Bushmaster survival pistol from him: you know, the .223 "pistol" with terrible, useless sights. My favorite gun range would not let me shoot it on the pistol line, and it was useless at rifle distances. I ended up selling it to the only gun store in Berkeley, CA.
A fond memory of Tim many year later was a photo on the cover of one of those imitation Solder of Fortune magazines of him sky diving out of an airplane without a helmet and carrying a firearm along the lines of an MP-5.
